Special Fund in Honor of Ikuo Hirano, MD, AGAF

The AGA Research Foundation is working on a unique opportunity to honor our friend, Ikuo Hirano, by raising contributions to honor him through a named session at Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) in Dr. Hirano’s passion area of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). The funds will establish the Ikuo Hirano, MD, Lecture at DDW in perpetuity and, if excess funds are raised, provide critical support for other research initiatives in his name.

  • Contributions for the named session program are fully tax-deductible and go directly to the AGA Research Foundation research award endowment.
  • The Foundation provides critical research funding to young investigators through career development awards and funds for pilot research projects.
  • Each year, the Foundation provides more than $2 million in needed research support to young researchers. A young investigator’s first grant is often the most important.

Please consider donating to create a named session to honor Ikuo Hirano’s life. There is no member of our specialty more deserving of this honor. He spent his career as a scientist, clinician and educator, touching the lives of thousands of patients and physicians.  Learn more about his life and career.
