You made a difference! Thank you for your support!
AGA Giving Day was the opportunity to help support a diverse GI investigator pipeline — for the benefit of our field and our patients. Donations will help the AGA Research Foundation foster the careers of underrepresented researchers. Thanks to generous support of our donors, we raised over $43,000 dollars to fund a diverse GI investigator pipeline.
AGA grants supported by AGA Giving Day will help spark diverse students’ interest in GI research careers and launch underrepresented investigators’ academic research careers.
With the support of our generous donors, we can fund the research endeavors of future investigators.

A special message to our donors
Take a minute to watch this video.
A more diverse research community is critical to our field and our patients
You can still support this special effort!
All donations to AGA Giving Day go directly to either the GI Pipeline Fund, helping to support undergraduate researchers from traditionally underrepresented cohorts, or the Fellow-to-Faculty Transition Fund, for URiM fellows intending to pursue academic research careers.
Strengthen the pipeline of diverse investigators to address underrepresentation of URiMs in academic medicine
Your donation supports either one or both of these objectives:
- GI Pipeline Fund – providing undergraduate students from groups underrepresented in biomedical research with summer experiences in GI research.
- Fellow-to-Faculty Transition Fund – helping fellows to pursue academic research careers, particularly those from groups underrepresented in medicine.
-
2050 population
By 2050, more than half of the U.S. population is predicted to be from a non-Caucasian background. We should strive for a physician and researcher workforce that reflects our patient population.
-
Underrepresentation in biomedical research
There continues to be a lack of funding for young investigators, especially from underrepresented racial/ethnic groups in biomedical research.
-
Health care disparities and mentorships
Underrepresented minorities in medicine (URiMs) are more likely to perform research that addresses health care disparities and can serve as mentors to younger physicians and students.
-
Different points of view
URiMs bring different points of view to the workplace and scholarly activities and teams composed of diverse individuals operate with increased creativity and promote cross-cultural competence.
